The Malayalam films were earlier produced with Chennai (Madras) as the base. Kerala State Chalachitra Academy was founded in 1998 for the promotion of Cinema as a means of cultural expression. == Movie halls == Trivandrum city holds the maximum number of theatres in Kerala.〔(News:The Hindu )〕 There are 19 A-Class theatres, with Anjali Theatre being the largest in the state with a seating capacity more than 1300.
